Abstract

In this episode of SoundPractice, Mike Sacopulos interviews Jennifer O’Brien, a healthcare expert and author of Care Boss: Leadership Strategies and Resources for Family Caregivers. They discuss the significant and growing number of family caregivers in the United States, currently estimated at 53 million, and the wide range of caregiving tasks they perform. O’Brien highlights the importance of viewing caregiving as a leadership role and shares insights from her book on how to manage caregiving responsibilities effectively. She emphasizes the need for early preparation and planning, understanding the caregiver’s role, and addressing the emotional and logistical challenges caregivers face. O’Brien also advocates for better support from the medical community and underscores the often-overlooked needs of caregivers.

The American Association for Physician Leadership has helped physicians develop their leadership skills through education, career development, thought leadership and community building.

The American Association for Physician Leadership (AAPL) changed its name from the American College of Physician Executives (ACPE) in 2014. We may have changed our name, but we are the same organization that has been serving physician leaders since 1975.
