A panel of physician leaders will gather next month in New York City to discuss how earning a master’s degree with a focus on medical management from the University of Massachusetts supported their ascension to the C-suite.

The discussion headlines the inaugural Medical Management Success Series event hosted by UMass’ Isenberg School of Management, from 5-6:30 p.m. Oct. 19 at the Westin New York at Times Square.

Isenberg is ranked among the top business school in the country by Financial Times and U.S. News & World Report. More than 30 percent of its MBA students are physicians, says MaryBeth Kimball, Isenberg's director of new business development and recruitment for professional programs.

The MBA is offered in partnership with the American Association for Physician Leadership through a relationship that began in 2002.

The school graduates "approximately 75 AAPL physicians every year and that number continues to grow," says Kimball, who has been the dedicated MBA adviser to Isenberg's AAPL students for nearly 15 years.

The panelists for the event include:

  • Neritan Mani, MD, MBA, FHM, the associate medical director at White Plains Hospital Center in New York.

  • William J. Higgins, MD, MBA, the vice president and regional executive medical director for the New York Presbyterian Medical Group.

  • Sowmya Viswanathan, MD, MBA, MHCM, the chief accountable care organization officer for the Dartmouth Hitchcock Health System in New Hampshire.

  • John G. Muller, MD, MBA, an associate attending anesthesiologist at the Hospital for Special Surgery and a clinical assistant professor of anesthesiology for Weill Cornell Medicine in New York.

They plan to “share their career journeys” during an “engaging discussion,” the business school says.

AAPL/Isenberg MBA alumni and current AAPL graduates who are students in the MBA program are invited.

After the discussion, attendees are invited to NYC Alumni Night at 48 Lounge, 1221 Sixth Ave., for further networking.

The deadline to RSVP has been extended to Sept. 29.

The Westin is at 270 W. 43rd St.
