Dr. Chalmers Nunn is a native of Virginia and attended Duke University. He spent an additional 9 years at Duke University Medical Center where he attended medical school and completed an internal medicine residency training program and gastroenterology fellowship. He is a board-certified internist and gastroenterologist. He is also a Certified Physician Executive with a Masters in Medical Management from Carnegie Mellon University.

Dr. Nunn practiced internal medicine and gastroenterology in a large multispecialty clinic in Rocky Mount, NC from 1985 to 1993. In 1994 he changed careers and became the first Chief Physician Executive for Nash Healthcare Systems. In 1999 Dr Nunn became the CMO of Centra Health and began a career of involvement in medical leadership in Lynchburg, Va. His roles have included being a senior executive with Centra, President of Centra Medical Group, Medical Director for Clinical Informatics at Centra, CEO of Gastroenterology Associates of Central Virginia and founder of Second Opinion Group consulting for GI practices. During his tenure in leadership, he maintained an active GI practice.

Dr. Nunn is now an executive coach supporting providers with their careers and consults with medical groups on leadership and organizational dynamics. He is a past President of the American College of Physician Executives which is today called the American Association for Physician Leadership and teaches in their Certified Physician Executive program.

Dr. Nunn has been heavily involved in his community as he has served on the board of health, is past chairman of a school board, coached youth sports, served as President of the high school athletic boosters, and was on the Lynchburg Chamber of Commerce board. He also has been on the boards of Centra Health and the Lynchburg Academy of Medicine. He served on the board of HumanKind as its chairman the last two years and is on the Academy Center of the Arts board and is chair of the development committee there. He is a big Duke Basketball fan and has a weakness for golf.
