Kirk Moberg, MD, PhD, DFASAM, FACP, FAAPL, CPE, has been a CPE cohort leader since 2013 and is a member of the AAPL Council of Fellows.  Over his career he combined a clinical, administrative and academic practice specializing in addiction medicine and critical care medicine. He retired from his clinical practice as the Executive Medical Director of the Illinois Institute for Addiction Recovery in Peoria, Illinois in 2019, and currently resides in Phoenix, Arizona.

Prior to moving to Peoria, Dr. Moberg served as Senior Vice-President and Chief Medical Officer for the Carle Clinic Association, a large, physician owned, multi-specialty group practice based in Champaign/Urbana, Illinois for 10 years. He worked with other members of the senior executive team in 2009 and 2010 to craft and finalize a merger/acquisition between Carle Foundation Hospital and the Clinic. For the next 18 months Dr Moberg served as Executive Vice-President and Chief Medical Officer of the combined organization. His governance experience includes service on hospital, specialty society, professional liability insurance and managed care company boards.

Dr. Moberg is an active faculty member at the University of Illinois College of Medicine since his graduation from residency in 1994. He holds the rank of Clinical Professor in the departments of Internal Medicine and Psychiatry. He is a frequent speaker on the topics of chronic pain management and addiction medicine for a variety of professional organizations including Medical Education Resources, Inc., the American Society of Addiction Medicine, the Illinois Council on Problem Gambling and others.
