Michael Bakerman, MD, FACC, FACPE, MMM, is the Chief Medical Officer at HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital. Lawnwood Hospital is a 436 bed Level II Trauma facility with a Level 3 NICU, Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Program, Structural Heart and CV Surgery Center, inpatient Behavioral Health, Pediatrics and Obstetrical programs. Dr Bakerman has responsibility for the overall quality and safety programs at the hospital along with credentialing and Medical Staff services and peer review activities.

Dr. Bakerman is a Board Certified Cardiologist and Board Certified in Clinical Informatics. He is licensed to practice medicine in Massachusetts and Florida. Dr Bakerman completed his medical school education at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He completed an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Boston University, University Hospital and a Fellowship in Cardiology at University Hospital. Dr. Bakerman completed a degree program for Masters in Medical Management (MMM) in 1998 at Tulane University and the AMIA 10 X 10 program in Informatics offered by OHSU in 2007.

Previously, Dr. Bakerman was the CMO at St Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Boston. Prior to joining St Elizabeth’s, Dr Bakerman was the CMIO for the UMass Memorial Healthcare System. Dr. Bakerman had the responsibilities for the clinical implementation and adoption of the system’s inpatient Siemens Soarian and the outpatient Allscripts Enterprise EMRs, the responsibilities for developing and managing the UMMHC approach to Meaningful Use and efforts with health information exchange. During his career, Dr Bakerman has served as a consultant for Ernest & Young, LLC, Perot Systems, and Clinovations.

Dr Bakerman has an interest in leadership for physicians. He was a Board member for the American Association for Physician Leaders and continues to teach in the Certified Physician Executive (CPE) program.
