Ron Nutting

Senior Physician Leader

Dr. Nutting is a senior Physician Leader whose career encompassed multiple clinical and administrative roles. Most recently he served as the Chief Medical Officer of Reading Hospital in West Reading PA, and the VP of Medical Affairs at Tower Health, which at the time was a 7 hospital, $1.7 billion System in southeastern Pennsylvania. The Reading Hospital is a 735 bed Level 1 Trauma Center and is the primary teaching Facility for Drexel University College of Medicine. In addition to responsibility for the quality and safety of care at the Medical Center, he was accountable for a Credentials Verification Organization and for Medical Staff Services across the system in support of more than 3000 physicians and allied health professionals including their credentialing, professionalism, peer review, ongoing professional practice evaluation, and physician leadership development.

He formerly practiced Cardiothoracic Surgery for many years in Reading Pennsylvania, where he was the Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Reading Hospital.

He is a past President of The Eastern Cardiothoracic Surgical Society (formerly the Pennsylvania Association for Thoracic Surgery), and was a longtime Board member and Officer of the Delaware Valley Association for Thoracic Surgery Quality Improvement Initiative, a 33 Hospital Consortium Sharing risk stratified data with the intent of improving outcomes for cardiac Surgery Outcomes in the region.

He is a graduate of University of Illinois with a degree in Honors Biology. He received his MD Degree from Northwestern University School of Medicine, where is a member of AOA. He completed surgical internship at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, General Surgery residency at Letterman Army Medical Center, and Cardiothoracic Surgery Fellowship at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. He Served as the Chief of General Surgery at 130th Station Hospital in Heidelberg Germany, Chief of Surgery in the 93rd Evacuation Hospital Operation Desert Storm, and Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center.
