Dr Vijan is a Board-Certified General Surgeon and the Chief Medical/Quality Officer for Spanish Peaks Regional Health Center in Walsenburg, Colorado. Originally from India, Dr Vijan completed medical school at Mahatma Gandhi’s Mission Medical College in Mumbai, followed by a General Surgery residency at the prestigious Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr Vijan’s interest in Robotic Surgery has afforded him the opportunity to educate surgeons nationwide and he has authored 3 textbook chapters in Colorectal Surgery – Atlas of Robotic Surgery (2021), Minimally-invasive Robotic Surgery (2019) & Atlas of Robotic General Surgery (2019). He is well known for developing a surgical procedure named, the “Vijan Pop” – a robotic technique to create an anastomosis during colon surgery. His practice covers hernias, foregut and colorectal surgery.

Dr Vijan is a Certified Physician Executive through the American Association of Physician Leaders. He has found his passion in improving quality, safety in healthcare and believes strongly in physician leadership to achieve those goals. As a practicing surgeon and a healthcare executive – he finds himself at the crossroads of clinical quality improvement, evidenced-based medicine and promoting healthcare delivery. He is focused on identifying the gaps in patient care and aligning healthcare providers with hospital administrators to promote safe, effective and efficient care.
