It is our core belief that all physicians are leaders, and as such are especially vital in determining and effecting better healthcare services delivery and patient outcomes.
As a physician leader, you know how vital strong leadership is to an effective organization. Here is your chance to help lead the American Association for Physician Leadership® as we continue to address the rapidly changing healthcare environment as well as the needs of our members and physician leadership industry wide. If you are interested in becoming an AAPL Board Member, please submit your application today!
We are seeking candidates for the 2025-2029 Board of Directors. Board members serve a four-year term, with participation in a variety of Board Committees. All voting members of the Association are eligible to submit an application for the Board of Directors and are encouraged to do so.
We seek board members with expertise across the healthcare industry, and who are experienced in governance of non-profit organization Boards.

To be on the Board of Directors, you must be an active Member of the Association; and be a Certified Physician Executive (CPE), and/or AAPL Fellow.
The AAPL Board of Directors is looking for candidates with a wide breadth of knowledge in any of our Area’s of Expertise, as well as those with leadership experience in healthcare settings, business acumen, and industry expertise. During the application process, you will have the opportunity to share your experience and identify your unique qualifications. For this year’s application process, preference will be given to candidates with expertise, professional and leadership experience the following areas:
  • Medical Informatics & Artificial Intelligence
  • Federal Medicine (Military, VA, Public Health)
  • Safety Net Clinical Delivery Systems
  • Health Services Research
Applicants will be asked to submit their professional resume, a personal statement that describes their vision for AAPL and how they will help the Association succeed, and a profile picture.
Submissions for the 2025-2029 Board of Directors must be submitted by October 27, 2024.

The American Association for Physician Leadership (AAPL) changed its name from the American College of Physician Executives (ACPE) in 2014. We may have changed our name, but we are the same organization that has been serving physician leaders since 1975.
