Where did you get your undergrad training, medical school, and post-grad clinical training?
I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Southern California-Los Angeles, then entered Rosalind Franklin University/Chicago Medical School. I did my post-grad, internship, and residency at the University of Southern California/Los Angeles County Medical Center/Women’s Hospital in Los Angeles, respectively. I hold a Master of Science in population health from Thomas Jefferson University College of Population Health in Philadelphia and a Master of Medical Management from USC’s Marshall School of Business.
What is your current job/position?
I am interim executive director of the Hawaii Independent Physicians’ Association.
Where were you born and where did you grow up?
I was born in Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii, and grew up in Sacramento, California.
How did you first become acquainted with the AAPL?
I attended a conference for those in hospital leadership positions and AAPL had a session about their organization and what it had to offer.
What have you learned so far by sitting on the AAPL board?
I have learned that despite the responsibilities one has as a board member, it can be a lot of fun. It has shown me how AAPL’s high-functioning board works, how it works with its CEO and staff, and what AAPL would like to accomplish in the future.
Who are your real-life heroes?
My real-life heroes are dedicated public school teachers and those who have made meaningful impact on America's problems of substance use disorder and homelessness.
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
My greatest achievement is that I raised a child who is generous, society-oriented, and who is praised by his friends and colleagues.
What about the AAPL mission excites you the most?
The AAPL mission speaks to the positive impact a physician can have on a healthcare organization with the education and support AAPL is able to offer that physician.
